Maryam Mirzakhani Scholarship for Women
In honour of the late award winning Stanford mathematician, Maryam Mirzakhani (May 1977-July 2017), Persia Educational Foundation has established the Persia Mirzakhani Scholarship for Women. Professor Mirzakhani was the first woman to win the prestigious Fields Medal in mathematics. The scholarship is designed to support education of Iranian descent women of any age or citizenship enrolled in a Master of Science or final year of a Doctorate programme studying STEM at the prestigious University College London. Applicants must provide a copy of their transcripts and two academic references demonstrating academic excellence and financial need.
The scholarship is a total of GBP 1500. Eligible applicants are encouraged to submit their application for the 2020-2021 academic year to Persia Educational Foundation by 5:00 pm BST on Monday, 1 February 2021. Following review and consultation by an independent panel, the scholarship results will be announced on 3 May 2021, marking the anniversary of the birth of the late Professor Mirzakhani.
Scholarship awardees are highly encouraged to contribute to this Fund following their successful graduation and securing employment.
All interested applicants must:
• Submit a complete copy of the application
• Be enrolled at a STEM programme at UCL
• Be of Iranian descent
• Possess and maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Demonstrate a commitment to community service
• Submit two letters of recommendation, one from a previous professor and one from an organisation where you have performed community service
